WINNER OF WEEK 86 : Ziggy and the Stereotypes

Nominated for Keyboardist of the Year 1992 by the Academy of Country Music, Ziggy Johnson is a Nashville musician and engineer. He has been the keyboardist for such artists as Alan Jackson, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Highway 101 and Pam Tillis. He currently can be found playing traditional country music at The Grand Ole Opry with Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson. In addition to his life as a musician, Ziggy works as a freelance recording and mastering engineer. In 2002 he mastered the cd "Lights of Madrid" for legendary guitarist Phil Keaggy which won the Dove Award for Christian Instrumental of the Year.

Having such a strong background in country music but being a keyboardist with other influences has led to the creation of instrumental music that defies categories by combining not only genres, but instruments and musicians. Ziggy is joined by a group of Nashville based musicians, who by nature of geography and instrument are stereotyped as being only 'country'. The combination forms to make very unique music. Written by Ziggy Johnson (except the remake of the classic Average White Band song Pick Up The Pieces), these songs appeal to musicians and music lovers but stay commercial and accessible to non-musicians. Joining Ziggy are:

Phil Keaggy - acoustic guitar;
Gary Oleyar - fiddle/violin, mandolin, guitar;
Kristen Scott - banjo;
Mike Johnson - steel guitar, ped-a-bro (pedal dobro)

GAZPACHO

As an independent band running operations from their studio, Gazpacho have received offers for distribution in Asia and North America as well as radioplay in the USA, Brazil, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Poland, Japan and Mexico..
